On Monday April 6th, 2020 the Westwood, Sadsburyville and Wagontown Fire Companies were dispatched to the 1200 block of West Lincoln Highway in Valley Township for an apartment building fire. The caller reported smoke in the building and were working on evacuating the occupants.
Arriving first, Battalion Chief Sly reported a 3 story wood frame structure with nothing showing from the exterior. While conducting a 360 size up, Battalion Chief Sly determined there was a smoke condition in the basement and located an exterior smoldering fire. Engine 44-5, Engine 31-1, Engine 35 and Ambulance 44-1 were all responding at this point.
Upon arrival, Engine 31-1 assumed first due engine and led off with a water fire extinguisher to put out the smoldering fire by a basement window. Crews from Engine 44-5 arrived and deployed positive pressure ventilation to division 1 to remove the smoke that had collected in the interior. Units from the Wagontown Fire Company were recalled. The situation was quickly under control with all hands working. |
