Seventh Annual Chester County Hero Fund Golf Tournament

By Battalion Chief John Sly
October 3, 2011

On Monday, October 3rd, 2011 members of the Fire Company participated in the Chester County FOP Lodge #11 Hero Fund Golf Outing.

This event is organized by members of the Chester County Fraternal Order of Police and benefits the Chester County Hero Fund. The Chester County Hero Fund provides necessary financial assistance to the widows, children, and families who are left with little or no support when a police officer, deputy sheriff, firefighter, emergency medical technician, paramedic, or state trooper loses his life or is seriously injured in the line of duty.

The Westwood Fire Company has been a long time sponsor for the event and annually several of our members play (or attempt to) in the outing.

This year, Hole #18 was sponsored by our Fire Company and Ambulance Division.

Chief McWilliams, Deputy Chief Deckman, Battalion Chief Sly, and Officer Cavanaugh of the Tredyffrin Township Police Department were the foursome designated to play on behalf of the Fire Company.

The day began around 1100 at the Downingtown Country Club where event organizers offered a light breakfast, snacks, and several gift items. An auction was also in place to help raise additional funds for the cause.

The event was once again sold out this year with 150 players, which means a great deal of support was received towards this important campaign to support our personnel.

Thanks to the Chester County FOP and the many participants of the tournament for supporting the Hero Fund which benefits firefighters and their families throughout Chester County.
