By Battalion Chief John Sly
May 7, 2011

On Saturday, May 7th, 2011 Traffic 44 and Westwood Fire Police were requested by Chief Cairns of the Lima Fire Company in Delaware County to provide traffic control assistance for a parade commemorating the 325th Anniversary of Middletown Township, Delaware County.

Settled in 1681, Middletown was incorporated as a Township in 1686. It was first known as Middle Township because of its geographic location in the middle of what was then Chester County. In 1789, Chester County was divided in two and Delaware County was created.

A parade featuring fire and EMS apparatus from various locations in Delaware County began at the Granite Run Mall and ended at the Penn State Brandywine Campus on North Middletown Road.

Traffic 44 was utilized to close Middletown Road at Pennell Road.

Fire Police spent approximately 2 hours assisting with the detail before returning to Westwood.

Units: Traffic 44
