Sprinkler and Standpipe Training

By Past EMS Chief Chris Biddle
April 7, 2010

On Wednesday, April 7th, 2010 the Westwood Fire Company held a training class related to sprinkler and standpipe operations. The training was instructed by past EMS Chief Chris Biddle.

The class started out with a one-hour classroom presentation followed by a hands on demonstration at the Mittal Steel Fire Department's facility along with the Harrison House of Coatesville.

The classroom presentation consisted of topics such as sprinkler codes, different types of sprinkler systems, fire pumps, and standpipe connections. The class ventured to Mittal Steel Fire Department where we were met by Mittal Steel Captain Chris McGeady. Captain McGeady allowed us to see first hand how a sprinkler system is set up and operates.

After a short demonstration on the sprinkler system, the members made their way to the Harrison House of Coatesville. The members were able to learn about main shut off valves and fire department connections. The Harrison House is also equipped with a unique water storage system just for the fire protection systems.

We would like to thank Mittal Steel Captain McGeady for allowing us to use their sprinkler system for training.
