Working Apartment Fire on Lincoln Highway |
January 7, 2025 | |
On Tuesday January 7th, 2025 at 15:27, the Westwood, Sadsburyville, Wagontown and Gap Fire Companies and the Keystone Valley Fire Department were dispatched to the 1100 block of West Lincoln Highway in Valley Township for an apartment building fire. The call to 911 indicated flames were coming from the inside and roof of an apartment located on the property. Battalion Chief Sly arrived first on the scene and reported a 20' x 50' mix used garage/apartment building that was fully involved. Chief Sly established the Lincoln Highway Command and requested a working fire dispatch. This added the City of Coatesville Fire Department, Modena and Christiana Fire Companies. Engine 44-5 arrived first due and crews ran two hose lines to the building. One hoseline was used to advance into the fire apartment and one hoseline was used in the adjacent areas of the building to stop the fire from extending any further. Firefighters from Westwood and Coatesville worked together to begin a knock of the large volume of fire and perform a search to ensure everyone was out of the building. Rescue 31 arrived second due engine on the east side of the building. Crews from Sadsburyville were assigned to D side exposures. Lancaster Truck 42 arrived behind Rescue 31 and advanced their ladder stick to the roof to prepare for vertical ventilation and opening of the gable end of the building. Lancaster Engine 52 completed Rescue 31's supply line and provided water to the scene from a fire hydrant located about 200' from the end of the driveway. The fire was under control within 20 minutes of firefighters arriving on the scene. Primary and secondary searches came back negative and there wasn't any fire that extended to any exposure buildings. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the County Fire Marshal's Office. There was one firefighter treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. Thank you 412 Fire Photos for use of the photographs. |
