On Saturday October 5th, 2024 at 11:03, the Westwood Fire Company was dispatched to Airport Road at the westbound Route 30 Bypass off ramp for a vehicle reported to be on fire. Rescue 44 made an immediate response.

Battalion Chief Sly arrived on the scene with minutes and confirmed a working fire. It was noted that the vehicle was well involved in flames and that all of the occupants were out of the vehicle, and in a safe position away from the burning vehicle.

Rescue 44 and Chief McWilliams arrived at 11:10, firefighters deployed a hose line from Rescue 44 and hand tools to begin working on controlling the fire. Firefighters used the booster tank water from the Rescue truck and quickly knocked down the flames, while opening the engine compartment and trunk area with hand tools to expose all burning areas.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported at the scene. Firefighters spent the next 15 minutes overhauling the car and racking hose lines back onto the Rescue truck before being released by command. The scene was turned over to the Valley Township Police Department, who summoned for a tow truck and are investigating the incident.
