On Wednesday May 8th, 2024 at 14:28, the Westwood Fire Company and mutual aid were dispatched to the 1100 block of Valley Station Road in the Cat Swamp section of Valley Township for a structure on fire.

Rescue 44 arrived to find smoke showing from a duplex structure and went in service with a hoseline. Firefighters encountered a working fire on the first floor and conducted a search of all floors to ensure everyone was out of the structure. Those searches came back negative, and the fire was knocked down.

Firefighters continued with salvage and overhaul of the structure and ventilated the smoke off all floors. Fortunately, due to a quick response and 911 activation, the fire was contained to the area of origin.

Additional units from Coatesville, Wagontown, East Brandywine, Honey Brook and the Coatesville VA were also on scene to assist. The fire was under control within 15 minutes of arriving with all hands working. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Chester County Fire Marshal's Office.
