On Wednesday June 20th, 2012, Ambulance 44-2 was relocated to Cecil County Maryland Station 8, to cover their district for the day.

Deputy Chief Matt Blakeley, of The Community Fire Company of Rising Sun, contacted Westwood about a month prior to inquire if we would be able to assist them with our second ambulance. Their company was planning on attending the Maryland State Fireman's Convention Parade held annually in Ocean City, MD.

Ambulance 44-2 arrived in Rising Sun at 5:15 in the morning on the 20th, and was immediately dispatched to an EMS call. Ambulance 44-2 covered five EMS calls during the 17-hour stand by. Transports on these calls were made to the area's local hospitals: Union Hospital in Elkton, MD, and the Harford Memorial Hospital in Havre de Grace, MD. ALS assistance was provided by the Cecil County Department of Emergency Services Paramedic 1, and Rising Sun's EMS Captain Kim Roland.

Westwood personnel were the only EMS crew on station with fire units from the Bart Township Fire Company, Robert Fulton Fire Company, and the Willow Street Fire Company, all from Lancaster County, PA and the First West Chester Fire Company from Chester County. Crews were provided with portable radios and map books of the area to utilize for the day.

Stand by crews were treated with outstanding hospitality having been provided with breakfast, lunch and dinner by the Community Fire Company at area eateries.

The hard work of the men and women from Rising Sun prevailed as they returned with 8 trophies from the event, including the 1st place award for the Best Appearing Aerial Apparatus. We would like to congratulate the Community Fire Company of Rising Sun on their accomplishments and recognition of their hard work and dedication.

We would like to thank the Community Fire Company of Rising Sun for inviting us to stand by at there station, and we look forward to working with them again in the future.
