On Monday, April 9th, 2012 Tac 44 and ATV44 were dispatched at 1525 to relocate to the Twin Valley Fire Department while multiple agencies were battling a large woods fire.

Multiple fire departments were fighting a 100 acre forest fire in the Union Township section of the French Creek State Park. The crews on scene were dealing with rough terrain combined with limited access and heavy winds, while attempting to stop the spread of the fire.

As the Traffic Unit and the ATV were enroute to Twin Valley Fire Department, the Chester County Fire Board advised to make a response to the fire scene and await further instructions. The units were sent to Blackmat Road and Sycamore Drive to meet up with other units and stage for further instructions.

On arrival at the State Park, the crew was instructed to stand by with a Task Force, who was preparing to protect a fireworks factory should the spread of fire travel in that direction.

ATV44 was utilized in transporting firefighting crews in to the woods to the fire line where crews were cutting fire breaks to stop the fire from advancing any further.

While transporting a crew into the fire line, ATV44 came across two exhausted and disoriented firefighters who were immediately transported back to the staging area via the ATV. As Command was notified of the location of the location of the firefighters, Command ordered all units to withdraw from this fire line and report to staging. As darkness settled in, the Task Force unit at the fireworks factory was disbanded and redirected to the Command Post to await further assignment.

ATV44 was reassigned to another Task Force, and assisted with other all-terrain vehicles and small four wheel drive brush trucks to transport fire crews into the fire line from staging area at Route 345 and Shed Road. The fire skid on the ATV was used to extinguish "hot spots" on the top side of the fire ground.

Around midnight, the fire scene was turned over to the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and fire department crews were pulled from the woods for safety reasons. The ATV was returned to the staging area, and then released as the final crews came out of the woods.

ATV and Traffic 44 returned to station and available around 0100 the following morning following nearly 9 hours of operation on the scene.
