By Fire Chief Randy Scott
June 9, 2010

Westwood Fire Company was dispatched at 07:33 on Wednesday June 9th for a reported motor vehicle accident on the Route 30 By Pass east of Route 82.
Chief Scott arrived on scene at 07:37 and established Route 30 Command and reported a tractor trailer which had rolled over and came to rest on the median partially blocking both the East and West bound lanes. Due to it being morning rush hour traffic, a Fire Police Task force was requested by Command. Ambulance 44 arrived and the driver refused any medical treatment. Rescue 44 arrived shortly thereafter and assisted with hazard control. Traffic Units from Thorndale, East Brandywine, Wagontown and Modena arrived and assisted with directing traffic off of the By Pass and to the surrounding roadways. During the recovery operation which was handled by Sanners Towing, Pennsylvania State Police requested that all four lanes be completely shut down to ensure a safe work area to get the truck and trailer up righted. Once the truck was removed from the median, road crews worked quickly to replace the damaged guard rail which was destroyed by the accident.
Units cleared and the By Pass was reopened at 09:50.
