By Building Committee
May 28, 2010

For the past several weeks, the addition to the fire station has been steadily moving along, despite the bad weather we have been having.

Our new building is a big movement for our Company. Our Building Committee was established in 2009 and consists of the following members:

Hower Smith, III - Chairman
Kathy Amer
John Sly
Mike McWilliams
Randy Scott

We intend to provide updates to the community on our website as this project progresses.

12/30/09:

After groundbreaking, the footers have been dug and filled with concrete. They have also started the block laying and are making good progress.

Within the next few weeks the outer base walls will be completed and work on removing the roof will start.

1/20/10:

The new bay frames are beginning to take shape as the block continues to be layed out. The new East wall of the firehouse is complete and the rear drive-through bays are beginning to see mason work.

2/3/10:

On the week of January 25th, the support beams were placed and the block work was nearly completed. We also had Vietri Electric in to shut off power to unneeded electrical outlets.

On the week of February 1st, crews from Vietri Electric, Simmers Builders, and Baldwin Heating began the removal of the inside drop ceiling and all electrical components were removed.

On Tuesday, February 2nd, the rest of the ceiling was removed, and the roof was removed along with the trusses.

On Wednesday, February 3rd, the roofing crew returned and the new trusses were delivered. Crews worked throughout the day placing and securing the new trusses. Within the next few weeks, the new roof will be completed and the old engine room walls will be removed.

We would like to thank Bob Franks Plumbing on Valley Road for the use of his garage for a temporary home for our Engine and Rescue during our renovations!

4/5/10:

While we have not had many updates on the website, much work has been completed. We now have 5 total bays with 7 doors on the building. The stucco on the front of the building is being completely restored and the new bays are taking shape. All concrete has been poured and the attic is roughed in.

This coming week, we will see additional interior electrical work, drywall, and soon the exhaust extraction system will be reinstalled.

5/11/10:

Interior drywall has been completed and paint preparation work has begun. Most of the interior electrical work and heating installation has been completed. The rear porch area, where our new Bingo hall entrance, has been partially completed.

5/28/10:

This week, the exhaust extraction system has been installed and is operational, allowing us to finally place our apparatus back inside the building for the first time in more than 7 months! The blacktop and paving work has begun in the parking lot.

PICTURES CURRENT TO 05/28/10

We are very excited and are in much need of the new addition to our building. Please check back often for more updates.
