| On Sunday, April 15th, 2012, the Westwood Fire Company, one Engine each from the Sadsburyville Fire Company and West End Fire Company of Coatesville, as well as a Tanker from the East Brandywine Fire Company were dispatched at 1524 to the unit block of West 10th Avenue in Valley Township for a reported house on fire.
Assistant Chief Scott arrived to report a 2 story single family dwelling with light smoke showing from the front and established "10th Avenue Command."
Engine 44-5 responded with a crew of four firefighters and arrived on the scene within nine minutes.
As units arrived, it was quickly determined that the source of the smoke was from a small fire on the rear deck of the structure which had been partially extinguished by a fellow neighbor with the home's garden hose.
Due to no occupants home at the time, forcible entry was required to ensure there was no extension of fire within the structure.
Command requested the response of Chester County Fire Marshal Division for investigation. Units quickly finished extinguishing the remaining fire and ventilated smoke from the house. The County 911 Center advised Command that the hom owners were notified and they were traveling back to their home.
At this time, the cause is under investigation by the Chester County Fire Marshal's office. Belfor Property Restoration was notified for assistance with securing the rear deck door to the house due to it being burned and forced open by fire crews.
All units cleared the scene at 1707. |
